A most brilliant, helpful, informative and enriching book! A must read for anyone attempting to understand & navigate the transformations of contemporary Indian society and most importantly, of its feminine component.
I practiced psychotherapy for six years while based in India (New Delhi) and I wish this book had been published then! It would have helped countless clients understand themselves and those around them better.
Indian society is experiencing a massive and profound transformation with rapid urbanization, “nuclear families” replacing the old “joint family” model, women joining the workforce and thus gaining autonomy, new behaviors promoted by massive television penetration, social media and Bollywood. Traditional roles of both men and women are being questioned.
This state of confusing flux actually is an opportunity for people to embark on a journey to “individuation” i.e. to become their most authentic Selves, rather than simply abide by society’s ancestral rigid expectations and rules. “The Emerging Feminine” is an extremely helpful and easily readable guide on such a journey.
