Charles Manuel “Sweet Daddy” Grace founded the United House of Prayer for All People in Wareham, Massachusetts, in 1919. Captivating as well as informative!

This was a memorable read for me! Having grown up in Augusta, GA, my paternal grandmother joined the United House of Prayer for all People early in her life and remained a staunch member until her death in 1991 at the age of 92. Saint Andrews occupied an apartment in the rear of the UHOP church in Augusta. She was a mentor of then Elder Bailey (now Bishop and leader of the church).
Miss Dallam's book is an on target, well thought out representation of a man who was truly before his time and set the bar in the world of evangelical revivalist type leaders. Grace rarely gets his due for achieving success in organizing the often disenfranchised and building a LASTING church. While some ridicule the UHOP for certain practices, considering the humble beginnings,internal conflicts and other issues affecting organized religions,"The House that Daddy Built" is quite intact. Wether or not you're familiar with the era or the man, you'll come away with a better understanding of both.

An outstanding must read book for all who really want to understand the House of Prayer and it's founder Bishop "Daddy" Grace

Marie Dallam's book "Daddy Grace: A Celebrity Preacher and his House of Prayer" is an outstanding, well written and well researched book. This is the first objective scholarly analysis of Daddy Grace and the House of Prayer that clearly explains the origins of many of the House of Prayer practices and customs and attempts to delve into who Daddy Grace was as a person.

It has been over 40 years since the death of Daddy Grace, yet there still many myths and misunderstandings about Daddy Grace and the House of Prayer. Many view Daddy Grace as a cult leader or sometimes confuse him with Father Divine. Dallam clearly and concisely explains why the House of Prayer should not be classified as a cult and explains the distinctions between the House of Prayer and the Church founded by Father Divine.

For members, this book is a must read, if you want to have a sound understanding of our founding father, the evolution of the House of Prayer, and to become aware of certain organizational areas that need improvement. More importantly, I think the book will help all members understand that we have a rich heritage that we should be proud of and that we must work to continually enhance all aspects of our faith.

Then the process of collecting the measures, and the difficulties encountered with it are clearly explained.You also get a catalogue of presentations to succesfully visualise your performance indicators at the most comprehensive way. Unlike other reviews, I am disappointed with this book which I bought based on the hype of other reviewers! ... And the writing style is cheesy, spouting-off some loosely defined quality terms in attempt to add some technical merit to subject matter. Having read the book (forced myself to stay the course), I can honestly say I took-away nothing of value.

Apart from three letters now in the hands of the German Literature Archive in Marbach, Elfride Heidegger kept all of the countless letters and cards from her husband locked away in a wooden chest. After reading them one final time, in 1977 she gave the key to this chest to her granddaughter Gertrud Heidegger on condition that she should not open it until after Elfride’s death. After years spent deciphering, transcribing and ordering the letters with the help of her father and her uncle, Gertrud Heidegger has here made a selection of them available to the public and added a commentary that provides relevant background material.

This selection from the many letters written by Martin Heidegger to his wife provides an invaluable insight into their life together, their friendships and relationships, and sheds fresh light on the ideas and beliefs of one of the twentieth century’s greatest philosophers.

Review of Martin Heidegger's "Letters to his Wife"

The book is quite interesting about Martin Heidegger personally, both for what it says and what it doesn't say, which is why I wanted to read it.

It doesn't cast much light on his philosophy, but then I never expected it to do that.

I was wondering about the extent to which his philosophy carried over into his daily activities, and you can tell from the book that it did. He was definitely sincere in his philosophy of Being. His deep attunement to Being (vs beings) in fact sheltered him from the most horrible events of the day. This is not to say that he was unaffected through it all, but it seems rather minimally so. At least not affected enough to write about it, not to mention take action.

It's amazing he (and his wife) kept the marriage going through it all. His relation with his wife was a combination of revelation and concealment ironically analogous to his view of truth. Certainly in his case it is true that behind every successful man is a strong woman. He was the (not so humble) servant of Being thought it all and everything else was more or less a means to that end.
